European shares up in early trade today  European shares rose in early trade this morning, led by financials after news of a US plan to subsidise mortgage payments for troubled homeowners. Among financials, British bank Barclays was up 3.5 percent, French insurer AXA also gained 3.5 percent and Dutch ING Group added 2.5 percent.

European open: Banks lead rise  Banking shares are leading the riser on Europe's main markets in early dealings Friday, helped by a late rally on Wall Street overnight.
