Los Angeles, State Unemployment Rates Jump The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Los Angeles County rose to 7.9 percent in August, up from 7.5 percent in July and above the 5 percent rate in August 2007, state officials reported Friday. The state's unemployment rate also jumped to 7.7 percent this month from a revised 7.4 percent rate in July, according to the Employment Development Department.
