News 451 Humna Adds Five Hospitals Network Kansas Bizjournals

Health insurance provider Humana hopes to triple their customer base in Kansas by securing an agreement with St. Luke's Health System which will include five more hospitals in Humana's preferred provider network. The five hospitals are Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City, Saint Luke's Northland-Barry Road Campus, Saint Luke's Northland-Smithville Campus, Saint Luke's South and Saint Luke's East. St. Luke's now has arrangements with all major health insurers in the area except Blue Cross HMO. While the situation is most likely a win for everyone involved, there is one worry; with all the health insurers included, how will price negotiations be affected since no one has the leverage of exclusivity. The new contract between Humana and St. Luke's will begin on March 1.
