Pharmacists are generally paid twice a month by health insurers, however with so many more insurers and plans to deal with, the roads are becoming murky. One pharmacist estimated that only 70% of his claims are paid. Insurance companies say they are working hard to resolve complications. However, pharmacists might not get paid for another four to six weeks in some circumstances. This poses a problem, especially for small and independent pharmacies who rely on that money to pay not only overhead and salaries, but also to pay for the drugs themselves that are ordered from pharmaceutical companies.
